A gang planned to murder their rivals following the killing of their 16-year-old leader in a revenge attack, a jury has heard.
Alexander John Soyoye, also known as John, was killed in November 2020 by members of or those affiliated to the Rochdale-based Release The Danger gang (RTD) following an earlier altercation in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester Crown Court heard.
Gideon Kalumda, 20, Jeffrey Ojo, 20, Harry Oni, 18, Brooklyn Jitoboh, 18, Simon Thorne, 18, Martin Thomas Junior, 19, Ademola Adedeji, 18, Omolade Okoya, 19, Raymond Savi, 19, Azim Okunula, 19, deny conspiracy to commit murder.

The defendants who were alleged to be members of or affiliated to the Moston-based M40 gang, of which John Soyoye was a leading member, had ‘beef’ with the RTD gang, it was said.
The conflict came to a head on Bonfire Night 2020, the court heard.
At around 2.40pm in Manchester city centre, members of the M40 gang chased down and attacked a member of the RTD gang, during which they ‘punched, kicked, stamped on and stabbed’ him to the leg, prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford QC said.
“Other members of the RTD gang were informed and, it can be inferred, the call went out to avenge the attack on their member,” he told jurors.
“By shortly after 6 o’clock that evening, thirteen members of the RTD gang had gathered together and travelled to Moston Lane, at the heart of the area the M40 gang regarded as their territory or ‘block’.
“The 13 rival gang members were armed with knives, machetes and rods or poles and wandered around looking for the M40 gang.
