The Boomtown Rats—the Irish rock band formed by Bob Geldof in 1975—have announced their first new album in 36 years, as Stereogum notes. Citizens of Boomtown arrives March 13 via BMG. Pittsburgh hardcore band Code Orange have announced a new album. The band formerly known as Code Orange Kids will drop its next record, UNDERNEATH, on March 13 (via Roadrunner). Ty Segall and Lightning Bolt’s Brian Chippendale have joined forces for a new band. They call themselves Wasted Shirt and, today, they’ve announced their debut album. Confusingly enough, it’s called Fungus II. It’s out February 28 via Famous Class. They’ve also offered up the first taste from the project. Copenhagen’s Loke Rahbek and multimedia artist Frederik Valentin released a collaborative album called Buy Corals Online in 2017. This year, they’re back with a new collaboration on Posh Isolation, Rahbek’s label with Christian Stadsgaard. This one’s called Elephant, and it arrives on February 28. Today (January 8), would have been David Bowie’s 73rd birthday. To mark the occasion, Parlophone Records has announced two new Bowie releases. One of the projects is a six-track EP called DAVID BOWIE IS IT ANY WONDER? that the label will release over the next six weeks. The first offering from the EP, which you can hear below, is a version of “The Man Who Sold the World” that Bowie recorded with Gail Ann Dorsey, Reeves Gabrels, and Mark Plati in November 1996.

K-pop superstars BTS have announced a new album. It’s called Map of the Soul: 7 and it arrives February 21 via Big Hit Entertainment. It marks the first new proper full-length from the boy band since the release of Map of the Soul : Persona in 2019. The band made the new album announcement via Twitter, linking fans to their Weverse community mobile app.
