The Voice judge was delighted to share an adorable snapshot of the birthday girl looking like she'd taken a leaf out of her famous aunt's book with a cute but edgy look. She had her arms crossed and her hair perfectly curled, with a tiara placed on her head. The teenager wore a pair of ripped, denim hotpants which Gwen would have loved for herself, and a sweet butterfly sweater, complete with a pair of purple, heart-shaped glasses which hung on her pocket. Mike Wass “Sunroof” is capping off the summer as a No. 1 song on radio’s Top 40 format. The pop song that could started out as a rough voice memo from newcomer Nicky Youre, sent to equally green producer Dazy, and went on to become ubiquitous after catching fire on TikTok. From there, “Sunroof” cracked the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 (it’s currently at No. 6 and climbing) and, this week, leads Top 40 radio ahead of two Harry Styles songs. “We didn’t really have anything going for us at the time,” Youre, 23, says. “Dazy had taken two years off and I hadn’t dropped anything for over a year.” The Orange County singer-songwriter, who had only released one song prior, started sending the producer voice memos and eventually conjured the “Sunroof” hook while fighting off a throat infection. “I was sick the day I wrote it, I just wanted to feel happy and good.”
Dazy, aka Nick Minutaglio, still remembers the first time he heard it. “Nicky sent me just a straight-up shitty voice memo,” he laughs. But there was something there, and he got to work. ”I did a really quick production over it,” the producer says. “Just guitars and drums.” Nicky liked what he heard and they spent the next four months sending it back and forth, going through 22 versions before arriving at the final product. “We both knew that it was special,” Youre says, “but I never thought it would do what it’s done.” He was still using his debut single, “Sex and Lemonade,” as a measuring stick. “I had one song out and it had done 500,000 streams and I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do that again.” Dazy’s expectations were similarly modest. “We knew it was a cool idea, but we didn’t think it was a smash hit.” “Sunroof” has amassed more than 250 million Spotify

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Though she’s just 22, Noah Cyrus has seen some stuff. As Miley’s younger sister, her music and acting careers launched early — at 16 and 2 (!), respectively — and she released several pop-leaning singles and EPs during her teens, opened an arena tour for Katy Perry in 2017 and was even nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy in 2021. On the less positive side, there was substance abuse, a bad relationship and lockdown isolation — but she overcame all of it, and that battle informs nearly every song on “The Hardest Part,” her long-percolating debut album, which sees her truly finding her voice in a way that her previous recordings only hinted at. Surprisingly or no, the Nashville native did it by returning home, musically speaking. Although her main collaborators here are Northern Irish producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, the 1975) and Australian songwriter PJ Harding (Chromeo, Ruel), the sound is country-leaning, heavy on harmonies, organic instrumentation and Music Row-friendly melodies; its big, stacked harmonies recall everything from the Chicks to Boygenius.

Meg LeFauve is writing the script and Mark Nielsen is producing the pic, which is very early in production and coming in summer 2024. Released in 2015, the original “Inside Out” imagined a world where people have five core personified emotions — Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust — guiding their thoughts and actions through everyday life. The film zeroed in on the emotions of Riley, a middle-schooler struggling to adapt to her family’s move from Minnesota to San Francisco, as her leading emotion Joy is expelled from the control center and forced to team up with her polar opposite Sadness in a quest through her mind. The film ended with the two coming to an understanding as Joy recognizes the need for Riley to experience an emotionally complex life, and she begins collaborating more with her fellow emotions to steer the girl through adolescence.
