Pablo Larraín’s Maria Callas biopic starring Angelina Jolie, a mystery thriller created by Jim Keeble and Dudi Appleton are the first projects to be backed by Fremantle and IBI Investment House’s €150M ($162.7M) Scripted Fund.
Unveiled today, the four-year fund will see Fremantle label’s high-end TV and film projects funded via a bespoke model by the Israeli investor, which will “fast-track the production of each project,” according to the pair. Fund oversight will be provided by Global Drama CEO Christian Vesper and his team.
The highest profile project to emerge so far is Maria Larraín and Steven Knight’s Callas biopicstarring Jolie, which was announced last year and is being produced by Lorenzo Mieli’s The Apartment Pictures, another Fremantle company, along with Fabula Pictures and Komlizen Film. Jolie already has a talent deal in place with Fremantle and is also making Without Blood, adapted from the bestselling novel by Alessandro Baricco.
Revealed today are two new TV development projects funded by IBI, with Dollard penning mystery thriller Generation Loss based on the Elizabeth Hand novel and Keeble and Appleton working with Hameiri on Shelter, a six-part revenge drama. The latter is being directed by The Last of Us’s Jeremy Webb.
Scrosati said the deal “not only
