Fox 2021 Fall Schedule Leans on ‘9-1-1,’ ‘Resident,’ ‘Masked Singer’ to Launch New Series

At the same time, the streamer has ordered a live-action adaptation of Mark Millar’s “Supercrooks” to series.“Super Crooks” is set within the same world as “Jupiter’s Legacy” and will follow supervillains just as “Jupiter’s Legacy” followed superheroes, with Netflix positioning the new show as the next installment in an anthology series.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterSophie Turner has joined the cast of the HBO Max series “The Staircase.”Turner joins previously announced cast members Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Parker Posey, Juliette Binoche, and Rosemarie DeWitt.The eight-episode series is based on the docuseries of the same name as well as various books and reports about the case of Michael Peterson (Firth), who was accused of murdering his wife, Kathleen (Collette), in 2001.

Finlay joins previously announced series leads Kate McKinnon, who will play Carole Baskin, and John Cameron Mitchell, who will play Joe Exotic.

The Diaz siblings cross paths with seemingly unrelated residents during some of the most heightened days of the year –the holidays.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterFox’s 2021 upfront presentation focused in large part on the fact that both Fox and the streaming service Tubi are entirely supported by ads, standing in contrast with other streamers associated with broadcast networks.Numerous references were made to the fact that Tubi has no paywall like other streamers, with plenty of jabs at the competition.

Fox is bucking the trend of franchise lineups. On the heels of NBC unveiling One Chicago Wednesday and Law & Order Thursday on their fall schedule and following the success of ABC’s pairing of Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 and CBS’ block of FBI and FBI: Most Wanted, Fox has opted to (temporarily) split its 9-1-1 series.

Fox has renewed both 9-1-1 and spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star for new seasons. The network has ordered a fifth season of the hit first-responders procedural drama series 9-1-1 from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, and a third season of spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Season 5 of “The Resident” will bow in the fall, while Season 4 had aired at midseason.Season 4 of “The Resident” jumped forward to a point in time when the COVID-19 pandemic has come and gone.

Mónica Marie Zorrilla Fox has renewed “9-1-1” for Season 5 and its sister show “9-1-1: Lone Star” for Season 3. The “9-1-1” mothership will anchor Monday nights in the fall, while its spinoff will premiere midseason.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterABC has given out series orders to the reboot of “The Wonder Years,” drama series “Queens,” and comedies “Maggie” and “Abbott Elementary.”The new version of “The Wonder Years” is a coming of age story set in the late 1960’s that takes a nostalgic look at a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama through the point-of-view of imaginative 12 year-old Dean (Elisha “EJ” Williams).

The Fox version is slated to debut during the 2022-2023 broadcast season.“We take great pride in Fox’s legacy of bold risk taking and inventive storytelling,” said Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment.
