Former Mod on palliative care has his youth rekindled in heartwarming surprise of a lifetime

As a former Mod on palliative care, Jimmy Reynolds had only one wish – to be surrounded by classic scooters again.
The 70-year-old, who lives at assisted living residence Belong Atherton, told carers he wanted to relive his glory days and they immediately set about to make it happen.
Staff reached out to local Mod groups Wigan Scooter Club and Bolton Two Hats Scooter Club who agreed to give Jimmy the “full Mod five-star treatment”.

In late November, the ex-Mod received the surprise of a lifetime when two dozen fellow Mods showed up on his doorstep on their iconic scooters.
They took Jimmy for a ride around the local area in a side car while they all shared their own stories. Speaking of the experience, Jimmy said: “When I saw what my carers had done, I was both shocked and overwhelmed. This was a great thing, and I am grateful to all that gave up their time to do this for me.”
Modernists, commonly known as Mods, are baby boomers who made their mark frequenting jazz clubs, donning fine Italian suits whilst their trademark Lambretta and Vespa scooters were parked outside.
Today, the subculture continues with a more casual approach to fashion, with Parkas and Harrington jackets and boots key wardrobe staples, with scooters enduring the key part of the lifestyle.
Jimmy, who is on palliative care, specialised care for those with incurable illnesses to make them comfortable, also recently went to watch Bolton Wanderers as part of his wish list.
