Flamin’ Hot, directed by Eva Longoria, tells the origin story of a Frito Lay janitor who created the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack.
Jesse Garcia stars as Richard Montañez, a janitor at Frito-Lay creates a new snack inspired by his Mexican-American culture.
The movie is Eva Longoria‘s feature film directorial debut. Flamin’ Hot also stars Annie Gonzalez, Dennis Haysbert, Emilio Rivera and Tony Shalhoub.
“I got an idea,” Richard says in the trailer. “It’s a spicy chip. It’s gonna change everything.”
“It’s a beautiful story about the Mexican janitor who worked at the factory and invented the hot Cheeto, and saved people’s jobs, and couldn’t read or write when he started,” Eva told EW in 2020. “His whole life, he was told ‘no. That opportunity’s not for you, ideas don’t come from people like you…’ And he was like, ‘Why not?’ It’s a very beautiful story [about] the man and his journey and how he succeeded in a world that tells you no.”

World premiering at the BFI London Film Festival in October, “The Origin” won acclaim for its unique approach to genre set in the Palaeolithic period. The script was written by Ruth Greenberg (“Run”) with Escape Plan Prods.’ Oliver Kassman (“Saint Maud”) producing. The pic was nominated for five British Independent Film Awards, with a win for breakthrough performance for Safia Oakley-Green. Bleecker Street is planning a fall-winter 2023 theatrical release.
Jennifer Lopez becomes a deadly assassin in Netflix film The Mother.Directed by Niki Caro (Mulan), the action thriller stars Lopez as the titular mother assassin who comes out of hiding to protect her estranged daughter.A synopsis reads: “A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.”The film’s cast includes Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, Gael Garcia Bernal, Paul Raci, Lucy Paez, Jesse Garcia and Edie Falco.The film will be available to stream from Friday May 12 at 8pm BST in the UK. The film, streaming June 9, stars Jesse Garcia as Montañez, as well as Annie Gonzales, Dennis Haysbert, Tony Shalhoub, Matt Walsh and Emilio Rivera. Montañez’s story is that while he was working as a custodian at the Rancho Cucamonga Frito-Lay plant, he thought of spicing up Cheetos with chile powder. The modestly budgeted film released on May 5 to poor critical reviews, but is emerging as a major box office success, having grossed $5.6 million to date. The film claims that some 32,000 women from Kerala had been abducted and recruited by the ISIS though the veracity of this number has been disputed. There were widespread objections in Kerala to the film, but it is running there in a limited number of cinemas.
