Manchester United look like they will finally move to solve their biggest problem area on the pitch this summer with the signing of a new centre-midfielder.
United have been lacking an all-action midfielder for a number of years now and much of the team's problems have stemmed from having a soft centre and being unable to control the middle of the pitch. Fred and Scott McTominay have been the default pairing for years because there are no other better options but, while both are talented and have had great individual performances, they have rarely worked consistently as a partnership.
With Paul Pogba set to leave, and Nemanja Matic and Donny van de Beek unable to be relied upon in a deep role, it's been clear that United have needed to recruit a top-class midfielder for some time but they have instead repeatedly neglected the position in favour of lavish spending elsewhere on the pitch. Thankfully, that is set to change in the summer.

United have finally realised that a new midfielder is paramount in getting the club back up the table and have made Declan Rice the top target. The West Ham hero would be the perfect solution to all of United's midfield issues but signing a player of such talent will not be easy. There is bound to be fierce competition and the Hammers won't let him go without a fight or anything less than £100million.
