Ray Winstone says he nearly quit the 2021 MCU movie “Black Widow” — and likened its “soul-destroying” endless reshoots to being “kicked in the balls.”Winstone, 67, who played villainous Russian general Dreykov in the movie — opposite Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow — made his damning comments about working in the Marvel Comics Universe to UK’s Radio Times.“It was fine until you have to do the reshoots,” he said in this week’s issue of Radio Times, according to Daily Mail. “Then you find out that a few producers have come down, and your performance is too much, it’s too strong.”“That’s the way Marvel works,” he added.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Scarlett Johansson is assembling the cast of her directorial debut, “Eleanor the Great.” June Squibb, the Oscar-nominated actor of “Nebraska” will be joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Broadway veteran Jessica Hecht and Erin Kellyman. The movie, formerly titled “Eleanor, Invisible,” follows Eleanor Morgenstein (Squibb), a 90-year-old woman trying to rebuild her life after the death of her best friend. As a result, she moves back to New York City after living in Florida for decades.

American Fiction filmmaker Cord Jefferson and writer John Wells have signed on to Just Cause, Amazon’s upcoming thriller limited series, starring and executive produced by Scarlett Johansson, Deadline has confirmed.

The “American Fiction” filmmaker has boarded the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of John Katzenbach’s novel “Just Cause.” Additionally, acclaimed writer John Wells has joined the project, co-writing the series with Jefferson, and will also serve as an executive producer. “Just Cause,” first published in 1992, tells the story of Matt Cowart, a Miami reporter.

EXCLUSIVE: Andrea Bang (Kim’s Convenience) will exec produce and topline Surrender, an indie drama marking the first feature from writer-director Jess Dang, which has entered production in Los Angeles. Naman Ramachandran Film and TV studio Fifth Season has secured international distribution rights to “Monsieur Spade,” the crime drama series starring and executive produced by Clive Owen. Fifth Season will represent the title at the upcoming Berlin European Film Market. The six-episode series is based on Dashiell Hammett’s hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade, the protagonist of 1930 novel “The Maltese Falcon,” adapted several times for the screen, most notably in 1941 by John Huston with Humphrey Bogart as the sleuth.
