Facebook topped Wall Street estimates for revenue in the first quarter with an 18% gain but missed targets for earnings per share.
Total revenue came in at $17.7 billion, while earnings of $1.71 per share missed analysts’ consensus by three cents.
The company said its daily active users rose 11% in March compared with the same month a year ago, reaching 1.73 billion. Monthly active users as of March 31 totaled 2.6 billion, up 10% from the same point in 2019.

As the global death toll from the coronavirus surpassed 200,000 on Saturday, countries took cautious steps toward easing some lockdowns, while fears of infection made even some pandemic-wounded businesses reluctant to reopen. The states of Georgia, Oklahoma and Alaska started loosening restrictions on businesses despite warnings from experts that such steps might be coming too soon.
The number of new deaths from coronavirus in England, Scotland and Wales has increased to 781 in 24 hours, according to new figures, meaning the UK has now had more than 20,000 deaths.
The number of people who have died in UK hospitals after contracting coronavirus now stands at 19,506.
