Charles Leclerc picked up a very special win at the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco 2024 on Sunday (May 26) in Monte-Carlo, Monaco.
The 26-year-old F1 driver, on the Scuderia Ferrari HP team, was doing very well in the weekend’s practice sessions, having the fastest lap times in sessions two and three, followed by gaining pole position (first) in qualifying.
While the race had a rocky start on lap one, with a three car accident that paused the race for about 30 minutes, it continued on and Charles placed first for the first time in the Monaco Grand Prix.
He had previously been on pole position in 2021 and 2022, but was unable to clinch a win those years. However, this time he won his home race and made history!

Charles‘ win marked the first time a hometown driver won the Monaco Grand Prix in 93 years, and marked only the second Formula 1 driver from Monaco to ever win that event at home.
The first and only other time was Louis Chiron in 1931.
