Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mark Page has been found guilty by a jury for four counts of trying to arrange sex with a child in court on Wednesday 9 March. Page, 63, denied the charges, which consisted of five counts of arranging the commission of a child sex offence. A jury found him guilty of four of those counts.
But he was found innocent on one count where it was alleged he intended for someone to expose their genitalia over a webcam. The children in question were in the Philippines. Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter.
Page, who used to be a Middlesborough FC match announcer and presented the Radio 1 early breakfast show in the early 1980s, was found guilty of committing the four offences from his home in Ingleby, Barwick, Teesside, on a webcam, and in the Philippines when he travelled there himself. The father-of-three had regularly been visiting the country on business, the court heard. Page's defence argued that his accounts had been hacked and various other people had access to them throughout the trial, which commenced a week earlier. DS Stephen Rookes with the police told the court there was no evidence the defendant's emails had been hacked, and Cleveland Police's digital investigator gave the same response in regards to Page's accounts.
Prosecutor Jo Kidd told jurors at the start of the trial: “He used charity and business as a cover to meet under-age people in order to meet them for sex.” She later gave a powerful closing speech referring to convicted sex offenders Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter. “Some of you may be old enough to remember Jim’ll Fix It," she began. “You will remember watching It’s A Knockout.
