Over the past few years TikTok has quickly become our one-stop for our beauty shopping lists. A quick scrolling session can yield “dupes” for high-end buys like the Dyson Airwrap, not to mention the latest viral sensation in the world of skin, hair and make-up.
Speaking of which, at the moment it seems like just about everyone is talking about these line-smoothing skin patches that get to work while you sleep, Frownies.TikToker @samanthafrost_ went as far as describing them as “How I get Botox for $22 every 6 months”, and the #frownies hashtag has racked up more than 65 million views on the app – so it seems like the people are onto something here. Costing a mere £23.95 here for a pack of 144 in the UK, there’s no denying that these little skin patches are considerably cheaper than the real deal when it comes to smoothing out the look of wrinkles.
So, how do they work exactly? In short, the rationale behind the product is that, once secured onto your skin, the patches will prevent your skin and the underlying muscles from moving while you wear them. After keeping them on for a minimum of three hours, usually overnight, you then re-moisten the patches with water in the morning and peel them off to reveal less prominent wrinkles.
According to the brand, they’ve been “used by Hollywood celebrities secretly for decades”. Many TikTokers have taken to the app to show off their before and after results.
