A pensioner has died after a horror fire ripped through a home in Lanarkshire. Emergency services raced to the property on Pleamuir Place in Cumbernauld after the alarm was raised at around 9am on Saturday.

An events firm whose premises was left in ruins after a 'devastating' fire on Monday night (January 22) has now issued a public statement. Visual Architects’ building, at the junction of Meadow Street and Stockport Road, went up in flames, with a number of homes evacuated nearby.
Emergency crews raced to the scene of the huge fire and remained there overnight, as residents spoke of the 'frightening' scenes that unfolded as 'explosions' were heard and plumes of smoke were seen for miles.
Visual Architects, which provides stage designs for music festivals including Parklife, has since confirmed none of its staff or workers based at neighbouring firms were injured.

And MP Jonathan Reynolds thanked the emergency services for their efforts at the scene in a public statement, adding: "It is a huge relief that no employee or neighbour was hurt, and we all hope to see this thriving local business back to full operation as soon as possible."
The events firm, that also adapts stages and décor for the Kendal Calling festival and sets for ITV hit show Love Island has said they are 'actively assessing the situation' following the fire.
"Our team is actively assessing the situation to understand the extent of the damage and plan our recovery efforts," the statement said. "Luckily, none of our staff or neighbours were injured in the fire.
"Despite this unfortunate event, we want to assure you that our commitment to serving your needs remains paramount. Our team is diligently working to ensure minimal disruption to our business operations and we are exploring alternative solutions to fulfil your requirements."
