The UK aren't exactly known for huge Eurovision success but things could be about to change this year, with betting odds tipping in favour of Essex-born hopeful Sam Ryder. As of last week, it's been 25 years since the UK has won Eurovision but with the grand final just days away, it looks as though we could finally be crowned winners again.Things are looking positive for the 32 year old bearded singer, who has been slowly rising up the bookies' rankings to settle, for the moment, in third position.
The Essex singer has already made a name for himself on video platform TikTok, with over 12.3 million followers - making him the most followed UK music artist on the app. Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter .
He has also recently completed his first sold-out UK tour. If that wasn't already enough, he's been touring Europe, promoting his song Space Man on Radio 1 and 2, and featuring on various TV shows ahead of the grand final on Saturday 14 May.
The Eurovision hopeful only really started to build his following during lockdown, by filming song covers in his shed and posting the videos online. Since then, he has found global fame - and won national acclaim - as the UK's entrant for the competition, taking place in Turin, Italy. The final draw has put the UK in the second half of the show too, which has helped to nudge Sam even closer towards the top spot in the odds.
But will he be another Katrina & the Waves? The group were responsible for our most recent win, topping the leaderboard back in 1997. Or will we be left with little to get excited yet again? In recent years, we've suffered a string of disappointments, including a jaw-dropping null points scored
