Former Feyenoord and Genk manager Mario Been believes it would be wise for Erik ten Hag to show Cristiano Ronaldo the exit door if he is appointed as Manchester United's new manager.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Wednesday evening, Ajax bosses expect Ten Hag to leave the club and take charge at Old Trafford ahead of the start of next season. The Dutchman was interviewed just over a fortnight ago and has been considered as the favourite for the job ever since.
The 52-year-old has faced competition from Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino but is expected to beat him to the role. If installed as United's new manager, he will be tasked with overseeing one of the biggest rebuilding jobs the club has been the subject of in recent years.

The first-team squad is in desperate need of changes being made to it, in terms of players both coming in and going out of the club. A lot of speculation currently surrounds Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford, with the 37-year-old about to enter the final year of his contract.
He returned to the club from Juventus last summer and has cemented himself as United's leading marksman this season with 18 goals to his name. However, Been insists that Ten Hag ought to consider offloading the Portuguese star, but has warned that if it backfires it could have costly consequences.
"I think you have to make the choice for the strongest team, that commands a lot of respect," Been told Voetbal Talk, as cited by FCUpdate. "If that is necessary and that also produces the desired results, then it is good.
