Eric Clapton performed for Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. at a fundraising event in Brentwood.
Kennedy’s campaign said that the Monday evening event — at a private home in Brentwood — raised $1 million for his campaign and $1.2 million for a PAC supporting it.
Clapton made headlines during the Covid pandemic, as he came out forcefully against Covid protocols, including venues that required attendees to show proof of vaccination. Clapton claimed that he experienced “disastrous” (albeit temporary) side effects after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, and that his hands and feet were “frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks…”
Kennedy has made numerous allegations about the safety of the vaccines, claims countered by numerous fact checks.
In a statement on Clapton’s appearance, Kennedy said, “Eric sings from the depths of the human condition. If he sees in me the possibility of bringing unity to our country, it is only possible because artists like him invoke a buried faith in the limitless power of human beings to overcome any obstacle.” He did not mention vaccines.
Photos from the event show guests gathered in a packed yard. Other speakers included Kennedy’s wife, actress Cheryl Hines.
Kennedy, waging a long-shot bid for the Democratic nomination, has drawn heavily on promoting his candidacy on podcasts and in some media outlets on the right, as well as a town hall on NewsNation.
