A typical household’s energy bill will fall by £122 a year in July thanks to the new price cap. Calculate how much your bill will drop by using our energy price calculator.
The latest quarterly energy price cap announced by Ofgem means households that use the average amount of gas and electricity will pay £1,568 a year. That’s down from the current level of £1,690 a year, a difference of £122.
The cap sets the maximum price for a unit of energy, not for the total bill, so households could pay more. The new cap sees unit prices for both gas and electricity fall by 9%.

Energy bills are set to fall once again this summer, with Ofgem announcing today (May 24) that the average household bill will drop by seven per cent, from £1,690 per year to £1,568 from July 1. Brits should soon see their energy bills fall after Ofgem announced its latest price cap - but there is a warning the news is not 'a sign of stability'. The energy regulator has lowered its price cap in response to wholesale energy prices.
Ofgem has announced household energy bills will fall by 7.2 per cent from the start of July, but remain around 40 per cent higher than pre-gas crisis levels. The average household energy bill is set to drop by another seven per cent from the start of July when the latest Ofgem price cap is applied, according to experts. Energy consultants Cornwall Insight said they expect the typical household’s energy bill to fall by £116 from the current £1,690 a year to £1,574 on July 1.
