‘Encanto’ Leads Sluggish Offshore Studio Weekend; ‘House Of Gucci’ Fashionable – International Box Office

Adding $30 million on Thursday from 4,336 locations, “No Way Home” has a domestic box office total of $386 million and $876 million worldwide, passing the $821 million total of the Chinese film “Hi, Mom” for second place on the global charts for the year.

This is significant for a number of reasons: Korea has been extremely soft of late, yet the launch day is 11% over the first day of 2019’s pre-pandemic Spider-Man: Far From Home and is the biggest day-one figure for any title of the pandemic era.

Sean Baker’s Red Rocket, the highest-profile specialty opening to report numbers this weekend (i.e. not distributed by a streamer) posted a solid $96,953 for a per screen average of $16,158 in six theaters in New York/Los Angeles.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media ReporterWithout any new releases to pose a threat, Disney’s animated musical fable “Encanto” has again notched the No. 1 spot on domestic box office charts.In its second weekend of release, “Encanto” has collected $12.38 million from 3,980 venues in the U.S.

As is typical, the weekend following the Thanksgiving stretch is a downer, and even duly so over Omicron headlines, coupled with a Disney animated movie that isn’t as mass-appealing as its predecessors, read Encanto which is looking at a $13M estimated second weekend, -52%. That second weekend estimate is lower than the pre-pandemic second weekend takes of Disney’s The Good Dinosaur ($15.3M) and Tangled ($21.6M).

UPDATE: Notably on the menu this weekend overseas were new openers Disney’s Encanto and MGM/Universal’s House Of Gucci. The former came in lower than hoped at the international box office, with $29.3M in 47 material markets, though it did make the low end of its global projection at $69.6M (including domestic‘s 5-day frame).
