Emmerdale's James Hooton loves life in 'fantastic' Yorkshire village and his 'side job' as a barman

Bradford, with his family in 2020 and has been exploring the area ever since. He loves the local bars, rock climbing spots, moorland walks and the nearby historic village of Saltaire, which is a World Heritage Site. James, who has played Sam Dingle for more than 28 years in the long-running soap, spoke to YorkshireLive from a pop-up bar called Ta'Hoots that he runs with business partner, John Tatton.
On Saturday the bar was set up at Roberts Park, Saltaire, to mark World Heritage Day. He also enjoys the local bars and the odd pint of Guinness.
"It has got a lot of history here," he said. "I'm a climber and go to Baildon Bank (a disused quarry) for 'trad' climbing and bouldering. "James said no one had recognised him today and he was happy to be 'anonymous' although he said people were polite when they asked for 'selfies'.
He said people sometimes recognised him while out shopping but only 'very rarely'. The dad-of-two said he enjoyed popping into Baildon for a pint with his wife. One of his current favourites is Cafe Bar Twelve in Northgate, Baildon.
"I have got to be careful because they (the bars) are all fantastic. . .
I like a Guinness. "He and his business partner run Ta'Hoots as a pop-up bar at festivals, weddings, and so on. James says he enjoys pulling pints and being outdoors.
"It's nice to get out in the community, doing something different to the day job. Me and John wanted to start something out of our comfort zone. "Talking about Saltaire he said: "It's a site of beauty and variety.
