Elton John offering up $1 million lifeline for Aids sufferers

Sir Elton John has unveiled the final note he ever received from his best friend Freddie Mercury, who lost his battle with AIDs back in 1991.The Tiny Dancer singer was close to the 45 year old and was one of the very few people allowed to spend time with Freddie before his death. Now, 29 years later, Elton is ready to talk about his last weeks with Freddie, when he was "too frail to get out of bed" and was riddled with pain from the lesions the condition caused him.

Elton John took to social media on Saturday with some big news to share about his charity, announcing that his Elton John AIDS Foundation is launching a $1-million COVID-19 emergency fund.

At 73 years old, Elton John says he's never seen anything quite like the devastation caused by the current coronavirus pandemic and it's reminded him to be mindful of all those suffering from infectious diseases across the globe.

Elton John admittedly hasn’t lived through anything quite like the coronavirus pandemic, which is impacting people worldwide while so much about it remains unknown. But the singer-songwriter and activist is taking what he’s learned from his work with AIDS to determine how he’s contributing to this current fight.

From finding ways to help others cope to sheltering in place to canceling events, here’s a look at some of the ways the entertainment industry is reacting to the spread of the coronavirus, which most people recover from but can cause severe illness in the elderly and those with preexisting medical conditions.
