Elon Musk will no longer be Twitter’s CEO.
The 51-year-old billionaire assumed the role after he finalized his purchase of the social media platform in late 2022. Since then, he’s implemented a multitude of polarizing changes to the app.
Things were so bad for him that millions of Twitter users actually voted that he should step down in December 2022. More than five months later that will happen, and he is sharing details about what is next for him and who will be taking on the task.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday (May 11), Elon confirmed that he had a new CEO ready to take over. While he didn’t provide a name, we know it will be a woman.
“Excited to announce that I’ve a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks,” he tweeted.
What’s next for Elon? He answered that question, too!
“My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops,” he explained.
Prior to this, Elon‘s latest big change involved removing legacy verification from the app in an effort to encourage users to opt into paying for the iconic blue checkmark next to their name. He later backed down on that decision to a degree and opted to pay for some stars to stay verified, which led to a musician calling him a “clown” while dragging him.
