Popular airline easyJet are warning passengers to read up on the rules before flying with them wanting their customers to "be able to pack in confidence".
Issuing a guide on what you can and cannot do as well as a list of dangerous goods you should leave at home, the airline has listed specific rules for those flying with smart luggage.
In their ' Restricted and unusual items ', it states that smart luggage is a bag which contains a lithium battery or power bank which is used to power itself or to recharge other devices.
easyJet state: "If the smart luggage is to be checked in and put in the hold, you need to disconnect and remove the lithium battery/power bank from the smart luggage at Bag Drop and take it into the cabin with you. Any exposed terminals should be protected from short circuit."
If the smart luggage is to be carried in the cabin, you need to disconnect and remove the lithium battery/power bank from the smart luggage, but it can stay in the bag.
The airline explains: "In all cases, for safety reasons, the lithium battery/power bank needs to be disconnected, so if you are unable to remove it from your luggage, we won’t be able to accept the bag on board."
There are restrictions on the type of lithium batteries allowed with the airline direction people to their dangerous goods section for more information.
EasyJet has strict rules regarding their free cabin luggage allowance, but there is no reason why you can't fit your essentials in one of the many cabin bags that you can bring on board for free.
