EastEnders’ Stevie Basaula has confirmed he's leaving the hit BBC soap in the wake of speculation that his character Isaac Baptiste was leaving Albert Square. Stevie first joined EastEnders is 2020 as Patrick Trueman's son, and said he will “cherish” the two years he spent on the programme and credited it for being part of his “growth” as an actor. His decision comes just days after his co-star Zack Morris announced he was also leaving the show, while Maisie Smith quit late last year.
In light of the news, EastEnders producer Kate Oates said the cast and crew “miss” Stevie. “Stevie has been a huge asset to EastEnders during his time here; not least through his incredible performance across Isaac's schizophrenia story," she said. “As a member of the Trueman family, he will always be a part of one of our most iconic families.
We will miss him, and wish him well in his new ventures,” Kate continued to tell Digital Spy. In a separate statement, Stevie branded working on the show as “a dream come true”. He said: “What a dream come true! Grateful to have spent over two years on one of the biggest shows in the country, there's nothing like it.
“Thank you for everything you've given me. I've learnt so much during my time and I'm proud to have been a part of some important work and to have made friends and memories that I'll cherish for a long time.” “EastEnders has been an essential part of my growth both as a young man and an actor, and I'm now excited and feel ready to explore this next chapter of my career,” Stevie concluded. It’s unknown when exactly Stevie’s character Isaac will be leaving Albert Square.
