The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued an update after their cost of living payments were paused during last week's bank holiday weekend.
The government department said it was temporarily halting the £301 payments, which more than eight million households are eligible for. It was not made clear why the payments were stopped, but the bank holiday was believed to be the reason behind it.
On Tuesday (May 2), the DWP confirmed that payments had restarted and a further 1.6 million people had received their money. The payment has now arrived in 6.4 million bank accounts, since the cash boost began being processed last week.

The payments are delivered automatically, but people shouldn't worry if they are yet to receive theirs. Deposits are being made until Wednesday, May 17. If your payment hasn't come through by then, you should contact the DWP.
The department has also previously warned that any email, text, or call asking for your personal details in order to receive the payment is a scam. If you have received one of these emails you should report it to [email protected] - for text messages, forward it to 7726 for free.
The cost of living payment will be made available to those who are receiving payments from means-tested benefits such as: Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, and Universal Credit. Claimants must also have received a payment from one of the qualifying benefits during the qualifying period - between January 26, 2023 and February 25, 2023.
Another payment of £300 will arrive in the autumn, while a third and final payment of £299 will be paid during spring 2024.
