A new daily charge for UK holidaymakers visiting the popular Italian hotspot of Venice has today been imposed with only certain groups of people exempt from this fee.

People across England and Wales will receive an extra £737 from today if they are eligible for Personal Independence Payments (PIP). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has raised the amount paid to claimants in line with inflation.
It means various benefits are increasing by 6.7%, which was the Consumer Price Index rate of inflation measured last September. From today (April 8), claimants will begin to benefit from the higher payment.
Over the course of 2024-25, it will be worth an extra £737 in PIP, Yorkshire Live reports. Claimants will receive a final total of £9583.60 across the next 12 months.

It comes as a result of the DWP's obligation to review benefits every year in line with inflation, with state pension and Universal Credit also increased. The DWP confirmed in writing that the benefits payment changes begin from Monday, April 8.

To be eligible for PIP, you need to have a health condition or disability that has caused problems with daily living or getting around (or both) for three months. The issues must be anticipated to persist for at least another nine months.
