Naman Ramachandran Signature Entertainment has acquired U.K. and Ireland rights to sci-fi thriller “The Astronaut,” starring Emma Roberts (“We’re the Millers”) and Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix”), from Highland Film Group. Written and directed by Jess Varley (“Phobias”) in her solo directorial and writing debut, the film follows astronaut Sam Walker (Roberts) who, upon returning from her first space mission, is found miraculously alive in a punctured capsule floating deep off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. General William Harris (Fishburne) arranges for her to be placed under intense NASA surveillance in a high security house for rehabilitation and medical testing. However, when disturbing occurrences begin happening around the property, Walker fears that something extraterrestrial has followed her back to Earth.

Average audiences across the two networks were 11.9 million and 1.4 million, respectively. For reference, the population of the United Kingdom is 67.3 million.

K.J. Yossman Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black is set to face trial in the U.K. after allegedly assaulting a BBC host in a nightclub. Black appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court in London via videolink on Thursday morning local time where he pled not guilty to a charge of assault by beating. Black was released on unconditional bail. His trial is set to take place on August 8. The charge stems from an alleged altercation with an LGBTQ+ party planner and host of BBC3 show “The Big Proud Party Agency” Teddy Edwardes last summer. According to reports, Black allegedly threw a drink over Edwardes, who has also appeared as a contestant on BBC gameshow “Unbreakable,” at Freedom nightclub in Soho in August.
