Downing Street has signalled a new onslaught on the BBC – with a threat to scrap the television licence fee and turn it into a subscription service.
The Sunday Times quoted a senior source as saying that the broadcaster could be forced to sell off most of its radio stations in a “massive pruning back” of its activities.
The source told the paper that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was “really strident” on the need for serious reform.

Michael Stewart is set for a return to BBC TV and radio, as the broadcaster confirmed they have lifted his temporary ban.
After an evening filled with fiery performances from Lizzo and Stormzy and subdued, affecting turns from Harry Styles and Billie Eilish at the 2020 Brit Awards, British rock elder statesman Rod Stewart took the stage flanked by chandeliers and a massive orchestra for the evening's finale. "Jack -- I'm gonna do this one for your mum, Hilary," Stewart said, nodding to Brit Awards host Jack Whitehall's mother, whom Whitehall joked was "throwing herself" at Rod earlier in the night.
