Alonso was abruptly shown the door on March 17 after a 17-year run at Marvel Studios. Her departure came in the wake of being Oscar-nominated on the international feature film, Argentina, 1985. Her most recent title at Marvel Studios was President, Physical and Postproduction, VFX and Animation Production. She had a history at the studio for being a consistent outspoken champion of diversity in entertainment.
Reports at the time said that Alonso was let go from Disney for working outside the confines of her employment contract which didn’t permit her to be involved with non-Disney projects such as Argentina, 1985.
Heavyweight Hollywood litigator Glaser responded to that statement at the time by saying: “The idea that Victoria was fired over a handful of press interviews relating to a personal passion project about human rights and democracy that was nominated for an Oscar and which she got Disney’s blessing to work on is absolutely ridiculous. Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to

Zack Sharf Digital News Director “Guardians of the Galaxy” writer-director James Gunn revealed in a recent interview with ComicBook.com that Zoe Saldana’s Gamora was nearly killed off in 2017’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” about a year before the character met her demise in “Avengers: Infinity War.” According to Gunn, it was Marvel executives that talked him out of the decision. “Gamora almost died in ‘Vol. 2,'” Gunn said. “I knew from the beginning Zoe only wanted to play the character for so many years, and she’s been very honest saying that she’s done [after this]. And so I was going to have her die. I thought she was the one that was going to sacrifice herself…I was kind of talked out of it by Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and then it just didn’t work that well. It didn’t feel right, it felt much more right to go where we go in that movie. That seemed what was correct for the story.”

Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso has resolved her dispute with Disney over her sudden exit from the company in a multimillion dollar settlement, Variety has confirmed. The news comes a month after Alonso was fired from Marvel after 17 years at the company, most recently as president of physical production, post-production, VFX and animation. In the days following the news of Alonso’s departure from Marvel, the reasons for it became a point of major contention. Sources at Disney asserted it was due to Alonso producing and then promoting the Oscar nominated film “Argentina, 1985,” which was made for rival Amazon Studios, in violation of an employment agreement she signed in 2022.
Disney has settled with former Marvel Studios visual effects exec Victoria Alonso over her abrupt firing.Terms were not disclosed in the multimillion dollar settlement reached earlier this week.Alonso was fired for promoting “Argentina: 1985,” which was in violation of her employment contract, a source confirmed to TheWrap last month.Alonso had been with Marvel Studios since the first “Iron Man” and served as president of Physical, Post Production, VFX and Animation. “Argentina: 1985” was distributed by Amazon and Alonso is one of eight credited producers of the historical legal drama. However, by promoting the film, Alonso “breached a 2018 agreement that saw her violate the company’s standards of business conduct that stated employees would not work for competing studios,” according to the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news.Alonso was warned repeatedly, and was even given a dispensation on the condition she would not work, promote or publicize the film going forward. Disney’s management audit team became involved and a new memo was signed.Alonso was reminded of her agreement and breach numerous times, yet kept up appearances.
