Born in New York City, Schumacher made his directorial debut with TV movie Virginia Hill in 1974. His credits also included The Phantom of the Opera, The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Falling Down, The Client, and Veronica Guerin.
He last stepped behind the camera in 2013 to direct two episodes of political drama House of Cards.
