Bassam Tariq has exited his role as director of Marvel Studios’ Blade.
“It’s been an honor working with the wonderful folks at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. Eager to see where the next director takes the film,” Bassam said in a statemen to THR.

Production was set to begin in November 2022 on Marvel’s upcoming feature about the iconic comic book vampire slayer. The film was introduced at the 2019 Comic Con.
“Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film,” Marvel said in a statement. “We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting Blade to where it is.”
The film is set to star Mahershala Ali in the lead role, alongside a cast that includes Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre.
Blade was expected to debut on November 3, 2023.
