Denise Welch has commented on her son Matty Healy's ban from performing in Malaysia after he shared a steamy kiss with bandmate Ross McDonald on stage.
The 1975 were headlining the three-day 'Good Vibes Festival' in Kuala Lumpur on Friday when frontman Matty Healy staged a protest against the country's anti-LGBTQ+ laws in an on-stage rant reports the Mirror.
The gig was cut short and the group were banned from performing in the Muslim-majority country, where homosexuality is a crime punishable by 20 years in prison.
Matty explained he "made a mistake" when he agreed to perform at the festival - which has now been cancelled - admitting that he "didn't look into it" when booking the show.
In the clip shared online, Matty explained to the audience: "I made a mistake. When we were booking shows, I wasn't looking into it.
"I don't see the f***** point... of inviting The 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with."
He then shared an intimate kiss with bassist Ross McDonald prior to the group playing their song, I Like America & America Likes Me.
Following their stunt, the group's performance was cut short and they left the stage.
"All right, we gotta go," Matty said. "We just got banned from Kuala Lumpur, I'll see you later."
Following the incident, the festival organisers announced the whole event had been cancelled as a result of Healy's "controversial conduct and remarks".
The footage of him kissing his bandmate has been circulated online and Matty's mum reposted the video on her Twitter page.
She simply captioned the repost: "He's my son," and added a rainbow emoji.
Following their performance, the festival organiser said The 1975's performance was abruptly stopped due to "non-compliance with local performance
