Demi Lovato is opening up about the reason she first started to use opiates.
In a new interview, the -year-old singer got candid about her experimenting with drugs and alcohol, and how it started from an early age.

While speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Demi revealed that the first time she started to use was when she was 13.
“I started experimenting for the first time when I was 12, or 13,” she shared on the program. “I got into a car accident and they prescribed me opiates.”
Demi recalled that her mom “didn’t think she would have to lock up the opiates from her 13-year-old daughter but I was already drinking at that point. I had been bullied and was looking for an escape.”
In addition to the drug use, Demi also turned to alcohol as well, saying that their first time drinking was “alone” and that she stole beer from her stepdad’s refrigerator.
“[That] should have been a major red flag,” she adds.
Beyond the opiates and alcohol, Demi says that her cocaine use was later in her teen years: “At 17, it was the first time I tried coke and, like, loved it too much and then kinda bled into me going to treatment right after I turned 18.”
