Demi Lovato has been very open about their sobriety after a near-fatal overdose in 2018 that they said left them with brain damage. While many were proud of Demi for bouncing back, they caught backlash after sharing that they were “California sober” earlier this year.

Demi Lovato's lifestyle is changing.The singer, who uses pronouns they/them, announced that they are no longer "California Sober." Instead, they are now legitimately sober. On Dec. 2, the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer posted a message on Instagram, saying, "I no longer support my 'California sober' ways.

Dancing With the Devil. even has a song on their seventh studio album called “California Sober.” "Used to live in fear of always slipping/But living for perfection isn't living/I ran a little slower, now I'm tripping/A beautiful and magical beginning," they sing on the track. But now Lovato is revealing a new outlook.
