Disney+ Star Wars series architect Dave Filoni has been named Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm.
The new position means Filoni will have an even greater voice in the future of the galaxy that’s far, far away.
Filoni said in the sitdown that he’s “exploring a possible second season” of Disney+ live-action series Ahsoka in which Rosario Dawson plays the grown version of Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who was an apprentice Anakin Skywalker.
He continues to hold his title of EVP which he was raised to in 2020. Filoni “weighs in on a narrative level” while Kathleen Kennedy continues to lead Lucasfilm overall as President.
Filoni made the reveal in a Vanity Fair interview on Tuesday.
The Mt. Lebanon, PA native has been an EP on animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rebels, and live-action series The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, the latter a live-action take on the cartoon Star Wars universe that Filoni built.
He’s set to direct his first feature live-action Star Wars movie which will bring together all the Disney+ sci-fi series story lines.
“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways,” Filoni told VF. “In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”
Up next in the Star Wars universe is the Disney+ series, Skeleton Crew from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford; The Acolyte from director Leslye Headland and Season 2 of Tony Gilroy’s Andor. Feature projects in development are with James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
“To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand,” Filoni
