Comedian Dave Chappelle has been subject to an attack whilst on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Video footage shared to Twitter shows an audience member run on stage and attempt to tackle the comedian to the ground as he is performing a set. A man who was reportedly armed with a gun and a knife was taken into custody.
Social media was in a frenzy as footage of the attempted attack circulated online. In the video, Chappelle was seen tussling with a man on stage, before the attacker ran behind the screen on the stage and was subsequently surrounded by security guards. The veteran comedian continued on with his show despite the intrusion on stage and seemed undeterred as he continued to make the LA audience laugh.
Chris Rock, who was at the centre of a furore after an already-infamous incident at this year's Oscars, later joined Dave on stage and jokingly said: “Was that Will Smith?” Dave later told the audience: "I don’t know if that was part of the show. I grabbed the back of that n****s head, his hair was spongy, absorbent. Listen, I just want to say I’ve had an incredible time." British comedian Jimmy Carr shared a picture of him and Dave on Twitter, along with the caption: "The Hollywood Bowl show with the legendary Dave Chappelle was crazy.
Just happy everyone’s ok." Members of the audience also took to twitter to share clips of the shocking moment. Musician E5quire tweeted: "DaveChappelle just got attacked on stage at #HollywoodBowl while making jokes. I’ve officially seen it all." Later, videos circulating on social media show the attacker, with an injured arm, being placed into an ambulance after his run in with Hollywood Bowl's security team.
