Taylor Sheridan Says Farewell To Dabney Coleman, Explains Why He Gave Mentor Unforgettable Turn As Dutton Family Patriarch In ‘Yellowstone’

When a great actor like Dabney Coleman passes away, there is no shortage of platitudes that come from the acting community. There is a shorter list of people who repay their admiration or a good turn, when it really makes a difference. That’s when the actor is still alive. Quentin Tarantino has done it many times, resurrecting careers, and Yellowstone co-creator did it by casting Coleman in a flashback scene with Kevin Costner that is a most fitting epitaph for the actor. His touching turn as John Dutton Sr. was also a pivotal plot point, revealing a promise made by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) that explains why he would not sell off a single square foot of his sprawling Montana ranch. Why did Sheridan choose Coleman? It goes back to when Sheridan was trying to make it as an actor, long before he found his purpose as a prolific storyteller.

Paul Schrader Says He Wrote ‘Peace and Love’ on Jacob Elordi’s Jockstrap Himself for ‘Oh, Canada’: ‘I Took That Burden Off’ Wardrobe Department’s ‘Shoulders’

Paul Schrader had a special job on the set of his latest film, “Oh, Canada”: drawing on the jockstrap that Jacob Elordi wears in one of the Vietnam War drama’s pivotal scenes. There’s a choice at the heart of “Oh, Canada,” when the fictional filmmaker Leonard Fife (played as a young man by Elordi, and older man as Richard Gere) dodges the Vietnam draft and escapes to Canada. The script leaves breadcrumbs as to what exactly happens until very late in the film, but finally Elordi is seen reporting for an Army physical.

Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders looks back on ‘AM’, says he has a “weird” rock version of ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’

Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders has revealed that he has a “weird” version of ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’ that has never been released. In a new interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the musician was reflecting on the band’s 2013 album AM, as part of the channel’s series 100 Best Albums.“There is a weird version that I’ve got somewhere of ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’ that sounds a bit like ‘R U Mine’,” Helders said. “It is really fun to listen to but it just wouldn’t have worked.”“I think once [frontman Alex Turner] is done with something, he really has to feel like he can move on to the next thing, because he has given everything to that moment and there’s nothing left after that, I don’t think.”‘R U Mine’ had been released in early 2012 and saw the band embrace a more raucous, rock-oriented sound.

‘Mother of the Bride’ Review: Brooke Shields Says I Do to Netflix’s Aggressively Inoffensive Rom-Com

Courtney Howard After “Ticket to Paradise” and “Destination Wedding” showed us the different ways in which calamity ensues when planning weddings abroad, Netflix releases “Mother of the Bride,” which combines the essential elements of both those recent romantic comedies into one passable package. The far-off setting emphasizes the lavish and luxe, though the narrative is cheaply woven and fairly threadbare. While “Mean Girls” director Mark Waters’ latest fails to add anything unique to the conversation, it does scrounge up a modest amount of heart when it comes to its saccharine sweet message of never giving up on happily ever after.
