Though “Knives Out” would go on to have some awards recognition and become a sleep box office hit, during the marketing campaign for the Rian Johnson film, the classic whodunnit seemed like a fun little side-project for the cast and crew in between other, more lucrative jobs. I mean, the film had a modest $40 million budget and seemed to be filmed, edited, and released in quick succession as Daniel Craig had a small window before going into the filming of his final James Bond film.

Just over a year ago, it looked like an open-and-shut case. In February 2020, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during a quarterly earnings call that the company was officially moving ahead on a sequel toKnivesOut, the surprise box office and critical smash whodunnit starring Daniel Craig and written and directed by Rian Johnson.

It was announced last week that Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as Benoit Blanc in two upcoming sequels to Knives Out and now his massive payday has been revealed.

Playing James Bond is not forever. But it seems Daniel Craig still has the golden touch – as his next venture will be a multi-million-dollar Netflix production. The actor, whose fifth and final 007 film is set for release later this year, has been focusing on life after the secret agent.

Netflix reportedly dropped big money to acquire two sequels to Rain Johnson's Oscar-nominated 2019 mystery film "Knives Out."  Detective Benoit Blanc's next cases will therefore drop exclusively on Netflix, although there's no word yet on what the nature of those cases may be or if any other characters will reprise their roles in the sequels. Netflix declined to say how much it was paying for the films, which Johnson will direct with Daniel Craig returning as inspector Blanc.

Rian Johnson‘s whodunnit “Knives Out” helped re-establish the filmmaker after the successful but fan-polarizing “Star Wars” installment, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” It gave us a fantastic new detective with Daniel Craig charming Southern crime novelist Benoit Blanc, a tongue-in-cheek take on Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot. “Knives Out” landed at MRC in a single picture deal and distributed by Lionsgate, but there is word that streaming giant Netflix is aiming to nab sequels.

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is closing in on a deal to make two sequels to the 2019 hit whodunit Knives Out, which Rian Johnson will direct with Daniel Craig reprising his role as super sleuth Benoit Blanc. Johnson, who wrote the original, has written the sequels and is producing with partner Ram Bergman. Sources said the deal will be worth north of $400 million, making it one of the biggest streamer movie deals in history.

Daniel Craig has stated that No Time To Die will be his last film as James Bond. The beloved 007's final act as the British spy agent is yet to be released but before that, the actor recently suited up for a rather special cause.
