Jamie Lang Buenos Aires-based production, sales, and distribution outfit FilmSharks is hosting a pair of market screenings for David Bisbano‘s animated feature “Dalia and the Red Book” at this year’s Marché du Film, and Variety has been given exclusive access to the first English-language trailer for the film. “Dalia” will screen twice at this year’s market, on Thursday, May 16, at 2:00 p.m. in Palais E and on Friday, May 17, at 9:30 a.m.
in Palais I. With a unique aesthetic inspired by modern favorites such as “Corpse Bride” and “Paranorman,” the haunting kids and family feature tells the story of Dalia, the 12-year-old daughter of a recently deceased author. After her father’s death, Dalia takes on the job of finishing the man’s final book.
To do so, she must become part of the story and come face-to-face with its characters, all fighting to be the story’s lead. Helmed by “A Mouse Tale” co-director Bisbano, “Dalia” is a trans-Atlantic co-production between Argentina’s FilmSharks, Vista Sur, and Mi Perro Producciones, Spain’s Doce and Mr. Miyagi, Peru’s Golem, Brazil’s Cine2, Colombia’s Signos Studios and Ecuador’s Matte.
A hot project at Latin American and European markets for several years, Disney scooped the film’s Latin American distribution rights at Cannes 2021. It will debut in theaters across the region in October before later heading to the Disney+ and Star+ streaming platforms. FilmSharks has also closed deals with Little Brother for German-speaking countries, Nashe Kino for Russia and the Baltics, AV-Jet in Taiwan, Muse Ent in Singapore and Nos Lusomundo in Portugal.
