‘White Noise’ Director Noah Baumbach Says He Never Saw Don DeLillo’s Novel as ‘Unfilmable’ at New York Film Festival’s Opening Night

Antonio Ferme editor Long before “Marriage Story” writer-director Noah Baumbach was attached to Netflix’s “White Noise,” several filmmakers mounted attempts to adapt the notoriously “unfilmable” novel of the same name written by Don DeLillo. Variety reported in 2004 that “The Addams Family” director Barry Sonnenfeld was on board to direct the film, known as his “longtime passion project.” The torch was then handed off to Michael Almereyda, best known for his 2000 film “Hamlet” starring Ethan Hawke, after Uri Singer acquired the rights to DeLillo’s novel. Baumbach’s “White Noise” served as the opening night screening for the 60th annual New York Film Festival on Friday, making its North American debut after a divisive premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The director told Variety on the red carpet that he didn’t give a second thought to the idea that his film’s source material was unadaptable.

The debilitating disease—characterized by 15 or more headache days per month—can cause pain that prevents you from parenting, striking (beyond the frequent headaches) that don’t stop simply because you’re feeding your newborn baby or watching your teenager’s first-ever ballet solo. “Parents struggling with migraine can find themselves caring for children while managing this intense neurologic disease that is often painful, messes with your sensory systems, and can make it difficult to think straight,” said Elizabeth Seng, M.D., an associate professor of psychology at Yeshiva University and research associate professor of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.People with migraine disease can experience , but also nausea, vomiting, dizziness, light sensitivity, impaired vision, or speech disturbances, said Mia Tova Minen, M.D., chief of headache research at New York University’s Langone Health. What’s worse, migraine attacks can be both disabling and unpredictable, which can impact parenting even when you’re not experiencing pain.

Kevin Smith says his film ‘Dogma’ is being held “hostage” by Harvey Weinstein

Kevin Smith has said that his film Dogma is being held “hostage” by Harvey Weinstein. In a recent interview with TheWrap, the Clerks III director offered an explanation as to why his 1999 religious satire, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, isn’t available to stream or buy anywhere.“In order to tell the story unfortunately, I’m gonna have to say the name that nobody wants to hear anymore. But of course, Harvey Weinstein figures into the story,” Smith said. The film was released theatrically by Lionsgate, with Columbia/TriaStar receiving the home video rights for a limited time, “but then the rights lapsed,” said Smith. He went on to explain how, roughly a decade later, he received a call from Weinstein “out of the blue” about a potential Dogma sequel or TV series. However, Smith’s excitement was short lived after learning from Miramax executive John Gordon that Weinstein may have had an ulterior motive.According to Smith, Gordon allegedly said that Weinstein was “calling everyone because he knew the story [about the rape allegations against him] was coming, and wanted to find out who spoke [to The New York Times].Smith went to explain how, after learning that Weinstein was trying to sell the rights to the film for $5million (£4.4 million), he and his lawyers tried to buy it back, “which we felt very dirty about because we didn’t want to give him money,” he said. However, Weinstein apparently “scoffed” at his various offers.

‘Daliland’ Review: Ben Kingsley Delivers Whimsy and Chaos as Salvador Dali

Twenty-six years after making “I Shot Andy Warhol,” filmmaker Mary Harron returns to the late ’60s/early ’70s New York art world with “Dalíland,” this time with greater mastery and style. Ben Kingsley stars as Salvador Dalí, the eccentric Spanish surrealist artist who paraded around sporting a handlebar mustache and dressed like a 16th century conquistador in the glam-rock era. Harron dabbles in her own take on surrealism by converging Dalí’s romantic headspace and the ever-present decadent party scene.
