Disney’s movie and television studios including Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Studios, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, 20th Century Studios and Disney Branded Television revealed plenty of news at the D23 Expo, which ran September 9-11 at the Disneyland-adjacent Anaheim Convention Center.
Highlights included panels loaded with cast and creatives behind almost every big Disney property, giving fans new looks at everything from Indiana Jones 5 to Disenchanted, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to The Little Mermaid. Included in the presentations were new announcements including Disney Animation’s ambitious next project Wish, starring Ariana DeBose, and Christian Slater joining the Willow remake.

The biennial expo comes as Disney kicks off its 100th anniversary celebrations in 2023.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: The crowd saw new footage from the threequel starring Paul Rudd, Kathryn Newton, Evangeline Lilly and Jonathan Majors. It opens February 17 in theaters.

Captain America: New World Order: Shira Haas and Tim Blake Nelson have joined the cast of the sequel starring Anthony Mackie. It arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024.

What Disney+ show has been more celebrated than “The Mandalorian?” Since the first season premiered in November 2019, the show has acquired a beloved following and near-universal critical acclaim. However, after the end of last season, it looks as if Din Djarin’s time with Grogu may be definitively over.
Fans know that “Star Wars” was kept alive on the small screen long before the new string of feature films post-Disney merger. This success was due to the embrace of animated series like “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and its follow-up “Star Wars: Rebels.” In addition to the return of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” Disney announced at D23 this weekend that we’ll also have a brand new project in “Tales of The Jedi,” which will see six shorts focusing all on sorts of Jedi characters.

Disney‘s big event, D23 Expo 2022, is currently underway at the Anaheim Convention Center and today Walt Disney Studios‘ made a big promotional push for upcoming theatrical and Disney+ lineup for feature films. The giant entertainment company revealed new details and first looks, led by their new “Lion King” prequel, directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight“), now titled “Mufasa: The Lion King.” Some of those anticipated titles include traditional animation flicks the family-friendly company is known for from Walt Disney Animation Studios, along with their live-action projects as well.
Harrison Ford choked up on Saturday while talking about the fifth "Indiana Jones" installment, which will be the 80-year-old actor’s last turn as the whip-cracking archeologist. "Thank you for making these films such an incredible experience for all of us, giving the opportunity to us to make these films for you," an emotional Ford said in a surprise appearance at Disney’s D23 expo in Anaheim, California. As he stopped for a second to collect himself, a cheer of support rose from the crowd. "I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic," he continued, adding that his co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was on stage with him, "is one of the reasons." "We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your a--." At the end of his speech he joked it would be his last time taking on the role.

Percy Jackson is back and Disney+ just unveiled the first look teaser trailer of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The footage was introduced at the D23 Expo by the three stars of the series: Walter Scobell, Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries. Watch the teaser video above.

First greenlit in January, “Percy Jackson” is an adaptation of Rick Riordan’s popular young-adult fantasy book series, which consists of five books released from 2005 to 2009. The series was previously adapted into two feature films released in 2010 and 2013, with Logan Lerman in the title role. The films grossed $425 million combined worldwide. The new series focuses on the titular 12 year-old boy (played by “Adam Project” star Walker Scobell), who discovers that he is the son of Greek god Poseidon and begins training to become a hero at Camp Half-Blood, a special training camp for demigods.

While they didn’t unveil the entire cast of “The Fantastic Four,” or whatever it is fans are griping about at the moment, Marvel Studios did reign over Disney’s D23 Expo much as they did at San Diego Comic-Con, earlier this summer, basically owning the entire affair yet again. And let’s face it, there were plenty of announcements.

Director Ron Howard’s 1988 film “Willow” allowed Lucasfilm to play within the world of sword and sorcery. Warwick Davis, who as a young lad played a main Ewok in “Star Wars: Return of The Jedi,” got to fill the role of underdog hero. Decades later, a sequel series is headed to Disney+ courtesy of Jonathan Kasdan, the co-writer of “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The new series will also bring back Davis in the role of the titular magician as a group of young heroes need his help.

“Indiana Jones 5” footage looks incredible.“I saw ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ in high school and it’s one of the reasons I became a film director and one of my producers is Steven Spielberg who is one of my all-time favorite filmmakers,” Mangold, who took over directing duties on the film from Spielberg, said onstage. “And Harrison Ford is one of my all-time favorite actors. And my composer is John Williams, one of the all-time great composers.

Disney’s D23 Expo wasn’t just about live-action films. The house of the mouse was obviously built on animation, and the studio didn’t forget its roots in tonight’s big promotional event.
