Bookmakers have reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to leave Manchester United this summer by pricing up which club the 37-year-old will be at come the start of the 2022/23 season. News broke over the weekend that Ronaldo has told the United hierarchy that he wishes to leave Old Trafford in this transfer window - an announcement that has divided opinion among fans, if social media is any reliable guide (of course it isn't).
Ronaldo was by some distance United's biggest source of goals last year, netting 18 in the Premier League (Bruno Fernandes was the only other player to reach double figures) and six in Europe. That means United have a huge void to fill if Ronaldo does depart, but new boss Erik ten Hag might just see this as an opportune moment to build for the future and, most importantly, free up a good deal of money that United could invest in new players.
Bookmakers think the most likely scenario is that Ronaldo will see out the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, indeed Betfred make him a 10/11 chance to start the season in United red.
Ronaldo, who was scheduled to be his return to training at Carrington today but has postponed that return due to family reasons, is 9/4 to jump ship to Germany and join Bayern Munich, although it's hard to see that move taking place unless the Bundesliga champions allow Robert Lewandowski to leave.
It's a 4/1 chance that United's talisman stays in the Premier League but swaps red for blue by moving to Chelsea and the Stamford Bridge club look by some distance his most likely destination if he is going to stay in England.
