Country Music Television to play male and female artists in equal rotation

Fans are spending more time listening to country music, according to a new study by the Country Music Association released Tuesday (Feb. 4).The survey compiled data from a sample of 12,100 people age 18 and older across the nation who listen to country music at least once a month.

Country music is about to get a major shake-up with the Hot Country Knights.

The country music television network CMT has announced that women will now be guaranteed to account for half the videos played on its platforms. A tweet from the network’s account stated there will be “complete parity between male and female artists” on CMT and CMT Music.

Gender imbalance has been a frequent conversation topic in country music circles, and CMT continues to lead the charge for female artists. On Tuesday morning (Jan. 21), the television network revealed that it will institute 50/50 video airplay for female artists on both CMT and CMT Music channels.

The country music television network that started the “Next Women of Country” franchise is now promising to be “Half Women of Country.” CMT announced Tuesday that all of its music video programming blocks will consist of 50% female artists from here on out.
