While some inmates on death row use their last words to apologise, Torrey Twane McNabb cursed the state of Alabama in a final act of defiance during his execution on October 19, 2017.

McNabb, 40, was pronounced dead less than one hour after the lethal injection at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama, at around 9pm.

Inmates argued people were left to suffer an agonising death as they claimed the procedure involved a controversial sedative that does not make people completely unconscious while the drugs stop their heart and lungs.
McNabb's family and attorneys expressed concerns that he remained conscious after the sedative was injected. He was injected with the sedative midazolam and appeared to be breathing for around 20 minutes afterwards.
When a guard pinched him, said his name and pulled back his eyelid, he
