Today, there is so much choice when it comes to treats you can take in your packed lunches or store in the kitchen cupboard. And in the region, many families got creative with different concoctions at mealtimes.
The Manchester Evening News recently took a look back at one unusual treat loved in the region. Nicknamed by some as a "narnie sarnie," a banana chopped finely or even mashed on two rounds of bread is still considered a classic to many.

On our Greater Manchester history, memories and people Facebook group, we shared an image of banana slices on bread with the caption, "Memories anyone? A childhood classic some would argue." And group members were quick to share their memories.
But the banana butty wasn't the only classic treat loved by children in Manchester. And MEN readers have since been sharing their favourite snacks from childhood, from drip bread to ketchup butties
Some said they still enjoy a staple banana butty. Yf said: "I used to load up on bananas on toast every Sunday evening in preparation for school on Monday, it gave me farting super powers."
Chesterdraws wrote: "Some of us remember a time when bananas were unusual and a luxury." Shmuck said: "Banana on a toasted bagel.
BFender said: "Banana and peanut butter toasties. Hotter than the centre of the Sun but ruddy delicious." And The happy munchkin commented: "I still have banana butties. Pure heaven."
