Claire Richards has had her fair share of highs and lows in the spotlight since entering the world of pop on her 18th birthday - including being told she had to lose weight at the time. The '90s singing sensation has now revealed that while things have improved, she still struggles with body image and believing compliments, during an exclusive chat with OK! this week. From living off 900 calories a day during the band’s heyday to coping with anorexia, Claire has previously admitted she will always struggle with feeling confident.
At her biggest she reached a size 20, but now has found a healthy balance. She does admit, however, that her body image demons are still there. “I think I probably deal with it better and maybe care a little bit less,” she explains.
“I never believe anybody when they tell me I look nice, because I’m in my own head with it all the time. “But I’ve found ways of making myself feel good about stuff. I look after my skin, I try to be as active as possible, I do things to try and keep me in a good headspace.
But I don’t think those demons will ever really go away because they’ve been there for such a long time and its years and years of conditioning.” Now, Claire keeps active by walking the dog upwards of 6km a day, and is looking to start weight training . But it’s nice to hear her be more self-accepting of her body. “I’m nearly 46 – I’m not trying to impress anybody.
