Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The wheels are not close to coming off the “Carpool Karaoke” franchise, as a series of new episodes was announced Monday morning for Apple TV+, featuring stars ranging from pop singer Avril Lavigne to TV star Sheryl Lee Ralph to current Broadway queen Lea Michele. The eight new “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” episodes will bow globally on the platform June 23. While most of the installments pair up two stars, three of the episodes promise to incorporate the cast of a series: Netflix’s “Girls5eva,” CBS’ “Ghosts” and Apple TV+’s “The Afterparty.” Some of the partners in carpooling have a joint project to promote. Alison Brie and Danny Pudi, for instance, are not only mutual “Community” alumni but recently reunited for the rom-com “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Not coincidentally, a teaser that was already posted for their “Karaoke” episode has them singing the Gotye song of that same name.

Angelique Jackson “Luce” writer JC Lee is set to make his directorial debut with “Bad Genius,” the upcoming English-language remake of the 2017 hit Thai film “Chalard Games Goeng (Bad Genius).” Picturestart and Picture Perfect Federation are producing the project, which will star Benedict Wong (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”) alongside up-and-coming talent Callina Liang (“Tell Me Everything”) and Jabari Banks (“Bel-Air”). The film is financed by Mallory Edens’ Little Ray Media and will begin production in May. The original film was written and directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya and produced by Thai film studio GDH 559 Company Limited. Glee actress Lea Michele has revealed her two-year-old son Ever has been hospitalized. Last Evaluation, an online series by YG Entertainment that will decide the line-up of new K-pop group BABYMONSTER, has been released.The episode picks up where the previous one left off, and opens with the performance of Rosé‘s solo song ‘Gone’, as covered by trainees Ahyeon, Ruka and Pharita.Their version of the track was positively received by the judges, which included WINNER members Hoony and Yoon, AKMU‘s Lee Su-hyun and YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk.Notably, Hoony gave special mention to Pharita, who said that her voice gave him “goosebumps”. Also written by Cronin, a true fan of the franchise, the movie stars Alyssa Sutherland, Lilly Sullivan, Morgan Davies, Gabriele Echols and Nell Fisher. It is interesting seeing these stories shift from a male to female perspective, showing that women can also be heroes of the supernatural as well. 

Chrishell Stause the ultimate anniversary present. On Wednesday, the singer celebrated one year of dating Stause with a romantic song about the Netflix star.G Flip posted a video to Instagram with the caption, “very very cute reaction ❤️ @chrishell.stause.” In the video, the two are sitting in a car, as G Flip plays their song for Stause.  Throughout the video, Stause is smiling and laughing until the end when she’s seen wiping tears from her eyes.

Discovery announced on Tuesday that the first season of the nine-episode apocalyptic-drama has smashed HBO’s SVOD European viewer ratings. This result comes after the season one finale set another ratings high in the U.S. on Sunday night, delivering 8.2 million viewers across HBO Max and linear telecasts, based on Nielsen and first party data. The series, which is based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation, has been a hit from the get go. “The Last of Us” is now averaging 30.4 million viewers in the U.S. across its first six episodes, according to HBO, with the first episode approaching 40 million viewers in the U.S. Outside of the U.S.. The show is now also the most-watched show ever on HBO Max in Latin America.
