The 2023 Burning Man Festival is not going according to plans.
Thousands of attendees have flocked to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to attend the annual festival. That includes celebrity attendee Chris Rock. However, the festivities have been dampened by severe storms in the area, which led to a “shelter in place” order.
Chris has documented some of the experience as attendees were stuck on the grounds.

In a since-expired post on his Instagram story seen by ET, Chris explained that the situation was not ideal. “Because of the flooding, the port-o-potties reportedly can’t be emptied. And because the gates are closed, people can’t get in to fill generators or deliver supplies,” he explained.
He also uploaded a brief video showing that the ground in the area had been reduced to a muddy mess that was difficult to navigate.
The Burning Man organizers took to X (formerly Twitter) to keep attendees informed about what was happening. They also urged others who had not yet arrived at the festival to stay away.
“For anyone in BRC, help each other stay safe. The gate and airport in and out of Black Rock City remain closed. Ingress and egress are halted for the time being. Stay prepared for adverse weather conditions continuing through the night and into Saturday,” they posted on Friday (September 1) night.
The account shared several messages from another account about traffic at the festival: “Do not travel to Black Rock City! Access to the city is closed for the remainder of the event, and you will be turned around,” one read.
