Chris Evans is clearing the air about a viral photo of himself that has resurfaced on social media.
If you’ve been on X (formerly Twitter) recently, you might have seen a picture of the 42-year-old Captain America star signing what looks like a bomb for a soldier. Some users have claimed that it was a missile that was then used in Gaza.
However, that is far from the truth. Chris issued a statement to explain what was really happening.

Taking to his Instagram story on Thursday (May 30), the actor shared the photo and explained that it was actually taken in 2016. He’s also not signing a bomb.
“There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding this picture. Some clarification: This image was taken during a USO tour in 2016. I went with a group of actors, athletes and musicians to show appreciation for our service members. The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, or a missile, or a weapon of any kind. It’s an inert object used for training or display purposes only,” he wrote.
In a second post, he included a screenshot of a fact check that explained he was signing what is called an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). According to a spokesperson for the Air Force, an EDO “is meant to model an artillery shell” only.
