EXCLUSIVE: Chloe Bailey (Grown-ish) has signed on to star in the upcoming film Praise This, which Tina Gordon (Little) is directing for Universal Pictures.
Praise This is a music-competition feature comedy set in the world of youth choirs. We hear that Universal is eyeing it for a potential franchise in the vein of Pitch Perfect, with production on the first installment set to kick off in Atlanta in June. Gordon penned the latest draft of the script, which was based off an original idea by The Story Company. Earlier drafts were written by Camilla Blackett (Little, New Girl) and Brandon Broussard, Hudson Obayuwana and Jana Savage—the trio otherwise known as Murder Ink.
The film falls under Will Packer Productions’ first-look deal with Universal, which has produced such hits as Night School, Girls Trip, the Ride Along films and Little. WPP’s founder and CEO Will Packer (The Photograph, Little) will produce alongside The Story Company’s co-founder and CEO Tim Story, with WPP EVP Johanna Byer exec producing. Executive Vice President of Production Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Tony Ducret will oversee the project on behalf of Universal.
Bailey is an actress, singer-songwriter and record producer who rose to fame as a member of the Grammy-nominated sister duo Chloe x Halle, which was signed to Beyoncés Parkwood Entertainment Company after catching the attention of the musical icon. The multi-hyphenate most recently starred alongside Yara Shahidi on Freeform’s hit show Grown-ish, last year releasing her debut solo single, “Have Mercy.” She will next be seen in Miramax’s supernatural thriller The Georgetown Project, with Russell Crowe and Ryan Simpkins.

Billboard Music Awards are bringing some big names to the stage to present the show's top honors.On Friday, Billboard announced a slew of celeb presenters who've been tapped to grace this year's star-studded awards show, which takes place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 15.The list includes some celebrated musical stars and entertainers, including Michael Bublé, Chloe Bailey and Giveon, Dixie D’Amelio, Liza Koshy, Heidi Klum and Dove Cameron.Also set to present is the young singer, and inaugural winner of the series AleXa.This year's Billboard Music Awards, hosted by Sean “Diddy'' Combs, will also feature some epic performances for a night of unforgettable music. Becky G will make her BBMAs performance debut, as will Megan Thee Stallion and Rauw AlejandroTop Country Female Artist nominee Miranda Lambert and fellow country star Elle King will also take the stage for a rollicking performance of their collab, «Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home),» a finalist for Top Rock Song.Travis Scott will also perform at this year's awards, marking his first awards show performance since the Astroworld tragedy six months ago in Houston, Texas. The full list of 2022 BBMAs finalists was announced last month, with The Weeknd landing nominations in 17 categories. It was also later announced that Mary J.
Tim Blake Nelson, Uzo Aduba, Simon Rex, Nina Arianda, Jim Gaffigan, José María Yazpik and Joey Lauren Adams have rounded out the cast of, Providence, a comedy from Dylan Sellers and Chris Parker’s Limelight and David Boies and Zack Schiller’s Boies Schiller Entertainment. Lily James, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Himesh Patel are set to star with Potsy Ponciroli directing. Michael Vukadinovich penned the script. Limelight and BSE will fully finance and produce, along with Shannon Houchins’ Hideout Pictures.

Chlöe Bailey has a lot going on right now. In an interview with for the magazine's «Melanin Edit» issue, the 23-year-old multi-hyphenate opens up about her many works in progress, including four onscreen roles — such as a very hush-hush series Donald Glover is directing for Amazon — and her eponymous debut solo album. Her busy schedule doesn't leave much time for anything else, but the «Treat Me» singer doesn't mind because work has never been a trial for her. She tells that it feels like she knew she wanted to sing «as soon as I learned to walk.» «I knew I loved performing.
Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) and Adria Arjona (upcoming Father of the Bride) have signed on to star in the upcoming action-comedy Hitman, from Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater (Boyhood). AGC International is launching international sales on the pic at Cannes and will co-rep domestic rights with CAA Media Finance and Cinetic.
Sarandon and Mullally will play two lifelong friends who are invited by an old college mate, played by Midler, to be bridesmaids at her wedding in Key West. Filming is currently scheduled to begin in Key West in September with Richard Barton Lewis producing through Southpaw Entertainment with Gabrielle Jerou-Tabak as executive producer.

Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaBlue Fox Entertainment has acquired the worldwide rights to “Jane,” a YA thriller starring “Riverdale’s” Madelaine Petsch.The cast also includes Grammy-nominated singer songwriter Chlöe Bailey, Oscar-winning actress Melissa Leo, and model Chloe Yu. Blue Fox Entertainment will release “Jane” theatrically this fall, with the film debuting simultaneously on Creator+.
